It's difficult for Australia to break new ground.

The highest peaks have been successfully scaled.

This is the squad that has secured seven Cricket World Cups, plus six more T20 titles, and earlier maintained 1,294 days undefeated in 50-over cricket.

The remaining milestones, the ones sought by the record chasers, are all that remain for a side that has achieved everything.

It needed as late as Sunday's success by three wickets over India for them to accomplish their maiden ODI chase above 300, regaining their record for the largest in the female 50-over format, is, frankly, a testament to the bowlers that have worn canary yellow over the last half-century.

It is hard for their batters to maintain a record if never given the chance.

Ultimately, the consequence of Australia giving up 330 runs was skipper Alyssa Healy receiving an opportunity to create her newest gem.

Then best known as the 19-year-old niece of renowned former Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she first played in 2010 after Australia failed to win either of the T20 or ODI World Cups held the previous year and has experienced everything through 15 successful years since.

Success in the T20 World Cup arrived three months after her bow and seven global championships have resulted from 10 attempts across formats.

The tough gloveman was in attendance in Derby in 2017 when a semi-final defeat by India momentarily interrupted the run of success.

That loss "drove us to reconsider our benchmarks," Healy stated recently.

At the subsequent ODI World Cup in New Zealand, Healy scored 170 against England in the title decider and was named player of the tournament. She ensured her country would not fail again.

The question of whether this latest epic knock topped that previous effort can be debated.

Many contend the argument supporting the pressure of a final. Some might respond with the test that comes when confronting a historic chase and a loud pro-India audience of 20,000.

What is certain is this hundred was much more difficult to see coming.

The New Zealand onslaught in 2022 came as she was the highest scorer, but this innings came after six matches in India over the past few weeks in which she had been unable to reach 30.

"For those following me in practice sessions, it has been a disappointing period because it appeared I've had no rhythm completely," said Healy.

"Yet the moment you step out on the field, your competitive nature activate and you simply focus on the contest."

Healy's competitive nature has consistently been her key asset - and an irreplaceable characteristic in replacing iconic ex-skipper Meg Lanning.

She was troubled by India's emerging talent Kranti Gaud in the previous month's ODI series, out to the young fast bowler in each encounter, but here that only provided Healy's spark.

One run resulted off the bowler's initial ball and from that point the right-hander was on her way.

"A chance to play and face the challenge with her and just have a bit of fun in that aspect, kind of motivated me," said Healy.

She got to fifty in 35 pitches - her quickest at the global tournament - and her ton in 84 deliveries while she attacked short-pitched balls, striking 21 boundaries and three maximums.

When she was removed her side needed 66 additional runs at one run per ball - a manageable total now demanding an easy conclusion.

"Chasing 330 runs is new territory so I am glad we have the belief to achieve that now," stated Healy further.

"Hopefully we don't have to repeat it but, if necessary, we know we can succeed."

These statements will be the last rival teams at this championship should hear.

Over the past five days a belief they will win from any position has become more firm - this triumph following success over Pakistan by 107-run victory despite struggling at 76-7 at one stage.

Next Australia play Bangladesh before a match against old rivals England in Indore in ten days, by which point a semi-final place may probably be guaranteed.

During that phase they exited the prior year's T20 World Cup in an unexpected loss by South Africa - an encounter Healy couldn't play because of ruptured tissue in her foot as she guided Australia for the first time at an important competition.

So great is her will, she later said she wished she had played through the pain.

However although she later admitted those injuries have delayed plans to retire, this tournament is expected to be her final tournament as skipper in one-day cricket and she is yet to win an international tournament as captain.

Triumph in India would take her to the summit of her ultimate challenge.
